Lydia the great white shark, who has been tracked heading toward the United Kingdom, has reversed her course. The 14-foot, 2,000-pound shark is now heading northwest, according to the latest data gathered the nonprofit group OCEARCH.
“If I had to guess, I would guess that Lydia is pregnant, and that she has been out in the open ocean gestating her babies, and that this spring she will lead us to where those baby white sharks are born — the nursery,” Chris Fischer, the head of OCEARCH told BBC News.
Fischer doesn’t know where she head next, but believes there may be a nursery somewhere near Turkey in the Mediterranean.
She is the first great white shark tracked swimming over the North Atlantic Ridge and anyone can track her movements on the Global Shark Tracker.
